We have a 16 year-old Varsity Cross Country athlete who vomits on queue every competitive 5K with 300 or less meters to go. This does not happen on 1600M or 3200M races. Every sort of food that is suggested to eat before a run has been tried along with the appropriate amounts (as well as liquids) and distance from actual race. There is no nausea involved. Just feeling great, then in seconds a welling up in their throat, then heaves/vomits seconds later. Many coaches and trainers are stumped. Is there anyone who has heard of this and was there a solution?
