I read the article about Jenneke:

and saw how the head Australian coach said she wasn't "focused" on athletics. I'm an outside observer and never followed her career (because she wasn't fast), but it strikes me that when an athlete tries to make a living in the sport they get cut down for lack of focus. The support they get from the Australian federation is nice but it's not like they're making a living:

Are Australian athletes not even supposed to work part time?
I'm a physicist and have definitely had similar conversations about careers in physics. As an undergraduate one of my friends had to work part time in addition to taking classes and trying to do research. It was crazy. And our research boss (I won't call him advisor) who wouldn't pay him was pissed off that this kid wasn't in the lab enough. The kid was incredibly talented and got a lot done, so the boss wanted to keep him around. But when the topic of money came up the boss would tell him to "live off his interest" (which was meant to be a joke) and refused to pay him a reasonable salary.
I think most people have similar stories.
Maybe it just struck a nerve but having interests outside athletics or a part time job is what normal people do. I get she isn't running well, but it's pretty crappy to blame her form on trying to make a better life for herself. Maybe that's actually what happened, maybe it's not, but I think that should be up to the athlete to reflect on and not for the head coach of the national team to announce.
