the biggest problem with Kenya:
1) their trials process and racing are more demanding and competitive than the world meet, thus most of the talent is overtrained or peaked by trials.
-- ease the qualifying standard but cut the race distance to 6400m (for 10000m selection) and 2400m for 5000m selection
or
-- make trials a less demanding process < 28:20 / 13:30 sufficient to advance in the selection process but additional speed-side marks required.
2) the trend to focus on road half marathon and marathon, with a mild neglect for speed-side capability (like a roach motel, fast 5000/10000 runners move up to marathon but never come back)
-- nobody who has raced over 13.1 in previous 6 months should be eligible for 5000 /10000 trials races
3) no requirements for speed-side capability. why bother sending 3:35 runners to race 3:31 runners?
-- to win selection at 5000 or 10000m, the athlete must also have hit 1500m 3:33 or 2000m 4:55 or 3000m 7:32
