I'm a freshman who just moved up to running in college after highschool. At the beginning of the season we all got these new shoes free provided by the school. The problem is that the new shoes are way different then what I'm used to. I've always run in nike frees in highschool, all 4 years, no injuries or issues whatsoever, not even remote injuries. But our coach switched us to nike vomeros, which are pretty much the polar opposite of nike frees. Anyway, running in the vomeros is kind of a challenge, my feet feel much clunkier and I feel like I've lost a lot of the power and control that came from my calves and feet. It seems like I'm putting forth a lot more effort to go faster than before. I also kind of feel discomfort in my shins and calves in the vomeros which I've never had before.
I talked to my coach about switching back my shoes and wearing my old frees (or like getting a fresh new pair of frees to replace the old ones), and he was super firm about it and said no and to never run in frees again since they don't have any support.
So anyway I'm kind of stuck with what to do, anybody have any suggestions/thoughts/similar experiences/advice?
also, I'm not sure if this is helpful, but I definitely have a different foot strike than most people... I have more of a forefoot strike than a heel strike, most of the time my heels just barely touch the ground when I run, if at all.
