... and pretty weird!
That's racist.
My money is on the story not being true in regards to the part he did not know she was his granddaughter. I think they both knew and she agreed to marry grandpaw because that way she would get all his money, and not his/her relatives. This did happen in the deep south, so no surprise that incestuous marriage happens.
Does Florida have incest laws?

Yes. You are required to but it's not enforced.

My guess is that she knew and he did not.
Florida is not the Deep South. It's not even the South. It is Florida.
Family trees don't branch so good south of the Mason-Dixon line.
Pretty sure if they have a kid it will be its own aunt or uncle as well as the aunt or uncle of its half sibling. Or is it 7/8 sibling?

She is from Jacksonville--a few miles from Georgia. And her family lives in Montgomery (Alabama). Not to be confused with southern part of Florida.
He lives in the Miami area. Had to go more than 200 miles north to find a wife.

From the OP's link:
Over the next few weeks, the pair would have several more dates, but at no time was the topic of family discussed in great detail. “At some point she mentioned that her family lived in Montgomery, but that she hadn’t been in contact with them for some years due to a dispute. ..."

The dispute part tells me that the plan was to marry to prevent the family from getting the lotto money. They knew beforehand they were related.
Any portion of an estate over $5.4 million will be subject to federal estate taxes. However, there is the unlimited marital deduction. There is no federal estate tax to your spouse. So with the same sex marriage laws, a wealthy widower could actually marry his own son and pass on multi million if not billions tax free. Hey, that's the way the laws work. As long as you love someone you should be able to marry he or she, right? I think federal estate tax over the $5.4m mark starts at 45%. Do the math!
Florida...
Divorce is probably unnecessary because the marriage is void to begin with unless Florida incest laws are held to be unconstitutional in the future.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Void_marriage
It's no different than a bigamous marriage - the second marriage is void, so there is not legally a polygamous situation or a marriage with someone below the age of consent, a marriage with an animal or inanimate object, and so on.

Florida is not the Deep South. It's not even the South. It is Florida.
South FL is full of NJ/NY transplants and Cubans. Nothing like the trailer park called the Deep South.
The appropriate response to this revelation would have been to blind himself with pins.
