Theoretically speaking, could a D1 coach recruit a student in the spring of their senior year, and push them through admissions/past admission deadlines as a recruited walk-on?
Thanks

Yes
At some colleges, absolutely. Happens a lot.
Sure. This was in football, but Georgia signed a kid late (like in May) and got him into school.

Am I missing something? Isn't this commonplace? I didn't even know if I was going to go to college until I happened to talk with an assistant coach in July after I had graduated high school. I enrolled in classes and walked on the team that fall.
I have witnesses an athlete get admitted in a college 3 weeks into the semester. If you are a good athlete, the sky's the limit.

Only at schools with shady academics. Florida State does this all of the time, for example.

Let me guarantee you that this is not only possible, but happens at every single high level DI school except Ivies, Stanford & Notre Dame & a maybe few others. There are some VERY prestigious academic schools - basically on par or just below the aforementioned - that have the ability to do this until at least June.
