damn balding at 20 would be horrible. I don't have much baldness in my family so hopefully i dont have to worry but I at least hope I make it to 40 before it starts

Finasteride.
im a girl and im losing my hair at 20 apparently it happens
Sorry, bro. I noticed hairline recession at 18. I had thick hair and the females liked it. So, yeah, it was not something I wanted to deal with in college. Rogaine helped for a while. Not sure I got regrowth, but it seemed to slow it down, at least. Try it, worked until I stopped it after several years. I finally said the heck with it and let nature take over. I was too active for combovers. I had to start close-cropping by mid-20s. Shaving down to stubble by early 30s. On the plus side, I save money on haircuts, but there's no doubt ladies like some hair. Some dig bald guys, though. It took a long time to accept at such a young age. For that matter, my subconscious still occasionally conjures dreams where I've regrown a full head of hair. Enjoy it while you have it and try the Rogaine or whatever is on the market now. I'm beyond help unless science invents a reversible 'cure'! Good luck!
Yes, it started in high school.
I'm just going to cut it all off tonight and watch people's reactions tomorrow. I'm curious to see if people will recognize me.

+1 Nice
My mom's granddad is bald, so I expected to go bald (old wive's tale?). So, I started buzzing my hair in college. Now in my mid 30s, and still have a full head of hair...and still buzz it.
Not having hair is awesome. No need to ever buy shampoo or use a brush again. You get out of the shower and know exactly what you look like. No bed head, no hat head, drive with the windows rolled down... everything about it rocks.
Congrats...and enjoy.
PS- bought a set of clippers 15 years ago from Walmart. Haven't had a haircut since. Figuring a haircut every 3 weeks, $16 for a dry cut, for 15 years, I have saved $4320. Not bad on a $20 investment.
Receding at 21. I called the Rogaine # and asked for before and after pics. She put me on hold for a few minutes and then told me she didn't have pictures, but could send me some drawings. WTF.
A while later I dated a girl whose parents were pharmacists. She worked there part time, and told me all the guys that got Rogaine scripts were getting balder and balder. This was the 90s, before it went OTC.
If you're confident, and the rest of you is good looking, you'll do fine with the ladies.

It's not an old wives tale. If your maternal grandfather is bald but not your paternal grandfather, you have a higher chance of going bald than if the situation was reversed. However, it's not the only factor, and it's also not a guaranteed thing.

Rush nerd here. That song was not written by Neil Peart.
41. My hair is fine and 50/50 grey, but it is all there. I've noticed that when my hair is wet it looks super thin and you can see the scalp, but that's because the grey hair is transparent when wet. Oh well, a lot of girls like a full head of grey hair.
Don't we get our bald genes from our maternal grandfather? My grandfather passed away a month ago at 92, and he had pretty good hair up til then. What's weird though is my older brother has some mild baldness. He keep his hair pretty short and it doesn't look bad at all. My father had the stereotypical horseshoe for as long as I can remember, and only started shoving it to the scalp in his 60s. It took years off his appearance.
If I was ever to go bald I would absolutely shave it.
I started balding after at 23. I had good thick hair, and wore it fairly long. Then the stress of a hospital stay really kick started the balding process. It was really crazy how suddenly and dramatically it all started. My balding has slowed a lot since then, but I never grew im still steadily losing it at 29. As my hair gets thinner I keep wearing it shorter. I'm hoping to make it another 3-4 years before its so thin I have to buzz it.
I thought about rogaine. I learned that it makes your hair fall out before it can regrow new hair. Something about the shed and regrowth cycle of hair follicles. I read message boards on it, reviews, etc, and it does work, but only for some people (less than half?). For many of the others rogain triggered the "shed cycle", but it didn't grow back like it should, so you go bald even faster. I decided not to use it.

No. And whatever you do, do NOT do that Bosley/hair plug thing. That's for the Mike Rossi's of the world. I saw one guy who did that, and kept on balding. He basically looked like your sister's doll with all the hair shaved off.(haha - I was a jerk as a kid!).
I am 37 and I still have a pretty thick head of hair, but it is starting to thin on top and my hair line in the front is not nearly as thick as it was a decade ago. When my hair is dry, I don't really think anyone notices, but I do. My wife says she doesn't notice but wives are too nice.
My daughter asked me about my bald spot the other day when i was tying her shoe, so it is not my imagination. But in my defense I had just gotten out of the shower and it is easier to tell when my hair is wet.
I don't think I will ever do the cueball look, but it does look good one some guys. I think I will just buzz it down to like a 2 or a 3 guard and just go with the thinning. Most guys I know have lost a lot of hair.
Somewhat related: it seems like more guys around my age are balding than previous generations. Not a conspiracy theory, per se, but it does seem a bit alarming. I look at my dad's buddies and my father-in-laws buddies and most of them still have full heads of hair. Most guys I know at least have a bald spot or noticeable thinning.
