Would vo2 Max workouts help you run a faster marathon or is it not worth it ?
It maximizes the heart´s bumping capacity. So yes some fast workouts or under distance races is a good idea before the marathon. But if you are a diesel-type runner (like marathoner´s often are), volume of these intense workouts/races should be quite low.

In my 2 marathons, I did a 6 week block of vo2max workouts from 18 weeks out from race day until 12 weeks out. From 12 weeks out until race day, the only vo2max efforts I do are any 5k races I may squeeze in, and my focus shifts to almost exclusively tempo paced efforts with some marathon paced work. The idea is to improve your overall fitness early on so that the tempo paced work feels more manageable and ends up being done at a faster pace than it would be without the vo2max work.
Okay thnx, always good to hear Some good advice. I'm already in the final stage of marathontraining, marathon in 3 weeks. So vo2 Max workouts wont help me in this stage ?
I don't think it would do anything for you at this point. I wouldn't add them in at all, especially not if you haven't been getting them in up until now.
