The big myth behind college recruiting is that if you are an all star the coach will get you in. But can he really? What kind of power does he truly have? Discuss.

Ivy leagues
You need to meet the minimum requirement if you don't you have no chance.

But Ivy League coaches have a number of slots that they can use to get you in....period.
For most things you have to be kind of close, like 1200ish or better SAT for Ivy's.
There are exceptions.
My DIII school, the coach puts your name on a list and the admissions board sees this as another notch on your belt, like as if I had placed in a state math competition or something. It helps but it ain't a guarantee.
I have heard of other programs that have to balance a GPA/score standard in the program. Like the average of their team should be x. This means that they can help someone who is looking bad as long as they recruit someone who has a good application.
If you're looking at a DI or a better DIII school and you're a top recruit, you should be getting a boost in admissions, but it depends on the school if that boost can carry you.
Just don't be a dumb sh!t...I recruit at a academically prestigious university & we have minimums of what we can get in (WAAAY below the minimum of what a normal applicant would gain admission with)...but honestly, if you don't meet those minimums, you don't want to go to this school (or any academically challenging school) because you'd struggle. So...not a myth, most DI universities who want to be competitive have strings to pull that a normal applicant doesn't have (there are a select few who do not still)...but yeah, probably the more prestigious the school, the higher the "athlete standard" is...

Ivy League coaches will absolutely get you in if qualified athletically and academically.
Yep. Running can be that extra boost that gets you into a college
