It's not looking good.

"Hard to get a read on severity of injuries to Royce Freeman and Devon Allen. Oregon OC Matt Lubick got choked up when asked about them."
It was a non-contact injury.
Here is a video comparison of the two injuries he's suffered side by side. The only good news is it's his left knee. We'd guess another ACL tear. The good news is he came back from the 1st one. This may be the end of his football career, however.

The money alone, even apart from the attention, would say why he'd keep up the football after the first injury (minimum contract in the NFL for a rookie is $435,000, median is $860,000). But he certainly has shown as a hurdler the promise to be the best in the world, 13.16 as a freshman, 13.03 this year after the injury recuperation, which might be worth a good portion of that NFL minimum but for a longer career, probably.
who?

Allen is a damn idiot risking his track career for football. He likely isn't good enough to get Drafted and would probably have to sign with a team and fight for a spot on the roster. Pure athleticism is not as useful in the NFL as it is in college (See RGIII).
He does football because it gets his name out there and its possible he just threw away money / world champs next summer.
Phoenix fans are devastated. Devon is our boy.
Devon Allen soon will be coming back home to Arizona and training with Altis World.
Ducks lose DEVASTATED to unranked Nebraska too. Weak, ineffectual nervous Helfrich has cured them of being a good football team. QB is slow and clueless.

Yeah, what an idiot trying to make more money in his first 4 year NFL contract than he'll probably make in his maybe 10 year track career
So idiotic...
no, it really is stupid. Every snap he plays he risks losing both track and football.

Ego and testosterone finished this young mans career.
To be honest, he would be a long shot at making a NFL team.
Yes they hit much harder in the NFL and the depth of talent is vast.
For his hurdling career I guess we will see what the extent of the injury is?
If he recovers he could have a few good years on the track , make the Tokyo team and retire.
Lets hope he is smart enough to get his degree as all this glory and ego does not pay the bills when you are out and injured.

If he were healthy and gunning for an Olympic title in 2020, the money he would make just that summer would dwarf anything he would ever make in even his best-case NFL scenario (which is probably 2 contracts as a return specialist and fringe wideout).

Hardly anywhere near the truth. NFL $ >>>>> Track/Nike $

Yeah, unfortunately this is simply untrue.
Always a need for Batista's at the Starbucks nearcampus. Sympathy tips will be good for a while.

That's right a Cuban dictator in a coffee shop. Spell check rules.
All the best to Allen really . loved his career and seems like a great guy.
Time foe DA to come back home to Phoenix.
How long did it take for him to comeback the las the last time? Realistically it will be harder to make the World team next year for London even without the ACL injury. This might be last we hear of Devon Allen. Unfortunate
