I always thought the term flat earther was a way of insulting somebody who was in denial and was hyperbollc because nobody actually believes such a thing. Then I came across this video.
Is this really a thing or is this just trolling?

Go away before that damned thread gets bumped again
I dare you to check the Twitter hash tag flat earth. Truly unbelievable. They call anyone who believes the earth is round to be "globetards".
Warning. If you take an optimistic and generally positive view of your fellow man it will be ruined.
No, but I've met a few people who are voting for Trump which is equally stupid.
I made a thread genuinely asking for an explanation. It got deleted within seconds.
I think there is a secret conspiracy on these boards to keep knowledge of the flat earth suppressed....
I've not, but I know there are a few Monkees out there that were day dream believers.
Not to get all REASONABLE about this or anything, but there are circumstances in which it's possible to see the curvature of the Earth and that it's not flat. Pilots of small planes can certainly see this. So ...anyway,

Or you could just climb a big hill and see it
No but I met a Nazi about 4 years ago. Fought in WWII for Hitler and still thinks the man was God's gift to the world (excuse the irony in this phrase). It was eye opening and a once-in-a-lifetime experience. He assumed since I'm blonde/blue that I would agree with all his views, which he was happy to discuss.
They have telescopes that can allow someone to see into space. If the World was flat you could see Japan from California with this telescope on a clear day.
They are also called Trump supporters

Look, I am no fan of Trump, but this statement is crazy. There are many ways to definitely prove the approximate-sphericity of the Earth, while you can't come remotely close to this level of certainty about presidential candidates (or any other social science question). Choosing who to vote for comes down in large part to different values and highly uncertain subjective judgements.

No need. We can start afresh right here and right now.
The Earth, she is round like your head!
ha ha, that is good! The scary thing is how many of these youtube videos actually get more thumbs up than thumbs down...I guys like Eric D. obviously have a book to sell so it's possible that he basically is leading this "cult belief" for other financial gains than seeking to expose the "so called "truth."It boils down to this: some people like to think everything is a big conspiracy. I've read through some comments and it is pretty mind-blowing.Some basic facts that it seems most "flat earthers" believe:1. NASA is a conspiracy2. There are no satellites3. Moon landing was obviously fake as are all pictures from space4. The edge of the Earth hasn't been discovered yet, because there is too much red tape around Antartica (which forms a crust as the circumference of the flat Earth....as Earth is shaped like a pancake).5. The Sun revolves around the Earth and is only 34-miles in diameter and several thousand miles away.6. Gravity also (essentially) doesn't exist.I tweeted out my disbelief in this and actually got some people responding back who were defending the flat earth (and I honestly don't think they were trolling).

Good idea
http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=6995124Literally there might be a few here. Figuratively, the place is rife with flat earthers/denialists.

Or denying global warming.
Ok. I feel dirty and shameful spending an hour reading some of this idiocy. Here is my take and I will end it that for the sake of my own sanity.
1. the people that are writing the blogs/ books etc, heading up the so called "movements" are not dumb and really do not believe what they are printing. Their motivation is cash grab and they know that there are plenty of stupid people in the world to give them their clicks.
2. There is an unknown quantity of people in this world that are truly stupid and believe every conspiracy thrown at them. These are the clowns that are supporting them and making idiotic comments online.
So category one falls into the same category as just about every other online financially motivated scam artist. It just happens to be a scam that reveals a deeper level of complete buffoonery than I ever thought could exist. it is also interesting if you click through to these sites that they also are supporters of 9/11 and just about every other conspiracy that has been thrown out there. So they are casting a wide net to catch many idiots with one throw.
I love the argument on why would the government care if the world is round vs flat and they bring up NASA and billions... hahaha.. who cares about billions when 1) there are trillions and 2) money is created by man!!
Retards.
A guy I worked with this summer was a flat earther. He seemed totally normal until he tried to "convert" me and some other people. He tried to say that the earth was only 2000 miles from the sun and that planets do not exist. He also posited that Einstein never existed and that gravity is "just a theory".
All in all he was a cool guy and one of my favorite coworkers, props to him for taking everything with a grain of salt.
