Looking for an alternative to the Asics Gel DS Trainer?

Asics Gel DS Trainer has been my go-to shoe for quality sessions and races (5k/10k/Half) for the last few years but the recent models are not for me - specifically the plastic "studs" on the front foot make it really hard underfoot.

Can anyone suggest some alternatives?

I'm looking for something to race in plus 2/3 quality sessions a week, should have enough to it for faster long runs in the 15-17m range. Half marathon time is 1:17.

I think the Adidas Adizero Adios is a similar weight/heel drop, and looks good, but using the filters on their website it doesn't come up as a neutral road show for some reason. Is their Tempo range the DS Trainer equivalent?

Any other suggestions welcomed - based in the UK

I am a fan of the Mizuno Wave Higotami . been buying the Higotami 2 on amazn for around 45$

I hated that too about the DS Trainers. I switched to doing all my road runs, including marathons, in DS Racers. They wear out more quickly, but I've been able to find them on sale for half price.

The ride of the DS trainer is shocking, so slappy and clunky, hopefully there will be major changes to it. I tried the Mizuno Catalyst but unfortunately that is very very similar with a very rigid plate. I also like the Hitogami but find it breaks down relatively quickly. Saucony Fastwitch and Breakthru would be an option. Also like the Nike Zoom Fly, cheap fast shoe which is better than a lot of shoes in their range with some support. Also recommend the Puma Faas 300 s v2. Puma shoes are sooooo underated.

I have about 300 miles on the higotamis i am in now. I am have been alternating between that and the Wave sayanora for my longer runs and easy days. I also had a pair of the catalysts but disliked the stiffness as well

^ That's exactly it, you put it better than me. Previous models were totally fine, no idea why they changed it.

I recently switched to the Brooks Launch 2 from the DS Trainers. Similar weight and heel drop, but MUCH smoother and softer ride. It's been like a breath of fresh air.
