Get an MRI wrote:
Have you had any imaging done? X-rays won't show much unless it's a frank fracture. Soft tissue injuries and stress fractures will show up on an MRI. The higher the resolution, the better.
I would visit a good sports doc, preferably one who is specialized in hips. Compensation from an injury on one side will definitely cause issues on the opposite side. Usually once the original injury is identified and fixed, the other side will settle down.
Agree with everything said here. Soft tissue injuries very rarely show up on a x-ray but dependent on your doctor/insurance/suspected injury you may be required to get an x-ray before getting an MRI. Some orthopedists have an x-ray machine literally in their office, it takes all of five minutes, and it costs so much less than an MRI that even though it's highly unlikely your injury will show up , in the off chance that it does show up it's worth it. I think insurance may require you get an x-ray first in order to get an MRI.
I've had stress fractures in the hip area and the pain was frequently most often felt not where the fracture actually was yet when my orthopedist did the 'press on the bone and see where it hurts the most' thing the slightest pressure on whichever bone hurt like hell.
I'd also get a copy of the disc and results in case your doctor doesn't give you satisfactory answers. I had an additional radiologist look my images once and find a third stress reaction the official report had missed.
