Bernard Lagat in his interview refers to his 3:47 mile PR as pathetically slow!
Most people would give their left nut to run 3:47. What a prick move

Comparing him with ELG, his PB should be 3:44 low.
Seb Cowe ran 3:47.33 back in the day and barely dipped under 3:30!!

I would respect Bernie a lot more if he only had a PR under 3:45. As it is, I barely can tell him from Tim Tebow.

Yes, it is an arrogant statement.
Doubtless 3:47 is slow for someone competing in an EPO free for all era, when everyone was running about 3 secs faster than they were capable of.
He should remember only 8 men have bettered 3:47 for a mile, and no one has run faster than Aden's athlete (cough!), Souleiman's 3:47.3, in the last 9 seasons.
In fact in the last 12 seasons since EL G retired, just before the EPO test was improved in 2006 and made more effective, there have been only 4 performances faster than 3:48.
Webb ~ 3:46.91 ~ 07
Souleiman ~ 3:47.32 ~ 14
Kiplagat ~ 3:47.88 ~ 14
Bashir(?) ~ 3:47.97 ~ 05
I'd suggest 3:47 is probably quite close to what the clean WR should be.
What he's really saying is that he regrets not running in one of those freak show races during the EPO period, when he was 3 secs better than what he could manage clean.
He had plenty of years of trying to break that 3:47 pb, including when he was the World Champ in 07, so it is a dumb comment to regret such a pathetically slow time. He never tried to better it after 2005, because he knew he'd have no chance without doping and didn't want to risk getting caught in order to do it.
I was going to say this jokingly, but there's a chance in hell, that Webb might hold the (assuming he's clean) world record for the *clean* mile??
3:46.91. I was going to make a joke about this, but I just realized, there might be a 1 in 1,000 chance that his mile is the fastest clean mile...Ofc, who's to say el g was clean and not alan...but gets you wondering i guess.

His 1500m PR is 3:26. His statement is accurate when, relatively speaking, he is referring to himself.

The right to be offended at anything and everything on display here. It's clear that Lagat is talking about his mile PR in relation to his 1500m.

And you think he ran that 3:26 clean?
Still running for Kenya.
No out of season testing.
Corrupt federation.
No effective test for EPO.
There is little to No chance any of those guys running 3:26/3:27 were clean.
He's just pissed that he left Webb's AR on the books.

Nobody lost form faster with the enhanced EPO test than Webb.

I couldn't care less of the circumstances in which he ran it.
According to the people on these boards, dopers include:
- everyone associated with Oregon (the "Oregon Juice")
- everyone associated with Nike (Uncle Phil's coverups explain why Salazar and Schumacher get away with everything of course)
- everyone who runs "too consistently" (El Guerrouj couldn't possibly run so well so frequently)
- everyone who doesn't run "consistently enough" (No other explanation for Makhloufi performing great, and then plummeting in performance)
- everyone from an Eastern European country (Russians and their systemic doping regimes)
- everyone from Africa (due to the "lax testing" of course)
- everyone who has a family member who is a physician (Cain was accused frequently of being doped in HS for this)
- everyone who runs a half-decent time
- every olympic gold medalist
- everyone who runs a PR early in their career and doesn't improve
- everyone who runs a PR late in their career (people talk about this with Farah as if it's the be all end all of accusations against him)
- everyone who PRs by a significant amount of time (No way Farah, Murphy, etc. could drop time so quickly)
Incidentally, this effectively eliminates everyone. Jager? He PR'd by over 20 seconds in a single season. Willis? His 1500m PB was set when he was even older than Farah. Goucher? Used to run for Salazar. Efraimson? On the Nike payroll.
Since the playing field is clearly even, I wouldn't even bat an eye if Lagat had tested positive on both samples over a decade ago.

Context is everything.
The OP is referring the our QOD for today which comes from this article.
https://spikes.iaaf.org/post/bernard-lagats-career-highlights
“If I had one opportunity to go back, I would have run with Hicham El Guerrouj in the mile when he was breaking the world record [3:43.13] or when he was running 3:45, 3:44s. I would have loved to have been there. When he broke that world record with Noah Ngeny running the second fastest time ever, I said ‘nah, I’m not gonna run this weekend, I’m gonna chill’ only to remain in pain for a long time – including now. My personal best would not be 3:47, it is pathetically slow. That is the only regret I have.â€

Gets you wondering what? How far down do you go? Do you wonder whether Solinsky is the clean world record holder for 10,000m?
Ridiculous.

Nope. Paula went from 2:15 straight to 2:25 within two years.
EL G - 5 times under 3:27. King of the mile.
I suppose if he said his 800m pb of 1:46 is pathetically slow you'd be offended too. Lagat cannot be held responsible for how willing you are to part with your left nut.

Actually, Lagat did test positive for EPO in 2003. But he had Nike to pay off/cover up the test results so that the B came back "negative."

I love how Lagat likes to drop these hints that he was as doped as El G back in the day.
Yes. 3:44 would have been possible.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
