Our preview of the men's steeple talks about Conseslus Kipruto going for the 7:53 world record in the 3000m steeplechase .
One thing it doesn't talk about is the possibility of Jager breaking the world record. I'm throwing it out there.
Neither Kipruto or Jager has broken 8:00 in their careers. If Kipruto's got a shot at 7:53 so does Jager in my book.
I'm pretty certain if Jager didn't fall in Paris last year he would have run 7:57. That means he only needs to be 4 seconds faster. Everything I can tell indicates he's a better runner than last year.
Obviously, it's a remote, remote possibility but it is in the realm of possible outcomes. And I can't say that about any other American distance runner and a world record that I can remember ever. It's got to be the highest percentage an American (not named Khalid Khannouchi) has to break a distance world record since I've followed the sport.
