No, wait...I did beat my roommate in running, but he never beat Alberto...so I can't claim to be great. Darn...there goes my ego.
I raced against Frank Shorter in 1981. He just showed up unannounced at a local suburban 10K that had maybe 75 entrants. True, I didn't beat him. In fact, nobody did, he won. But it looked to me like he was racing without a number, Without a shirt, in fact. (He had a great tan.)
I'd bet he hadn't even signed up to run. And anyway, no number = FORFEIT = no place. So I beat him. And if you think I'm making this up, do a search on LRC, you'll find a post by someone else who also ran in that race.
