Under 16 seems unrealistic to me, but maybe it's because I couldn't run that at my peak. I think mentally, you are set up to get injured. 6 months is plenty of time, but you are going to tell yourself to train like you used to right from the beginning. Get 2 months of base milage in before doing any hard runs or speed runs. Do 2 months of slow easy miles.
I was kind of in the same boat as you, except Im only 32 and not overweight at all. I decided one day to start running. I just started running 4 miles every night. I mean, 20 miles a week is nothing, right? It was definitely too much to start off with. My joints started to hurt within a few weeks. Then I had to decrease my mileage.
