It's been a few years since I've been on the "up and up" with training shoes. A lot has changed. I'm looking for a good tempo shoe. Would love to read your suggestions.

i love the Pegasus 33.
What kind of shoes do you like? I like the NB Zante
I've become a huge fan of Altra's The One 2.5. Zero drop, but some good cushion. It makes transitioning to spikes really, really easy.
Nike Lunaracer
Tiger Excalibur, circa 1982. Have not been able to find a decent running shoe since.

The lunaracer is really good. Also, take a look at the adidas adios.
Thanks for the suggestions.
Any race flat pretty much

I'm having the same problem. I haven't run since 2009 and went to pick up a pair the other day. The Pegasus surprised me....it was like a racing flat. I always wore somewhat lightweight trainers even when I was running big miles, but the Pegasus 33 was like a true racing flat.
The shoes have really changed. I still haven't decided on a new trainer.

Slap on a modern racing flat then.
See ya in the Olympics. ðŸ‘ðŸ¼
I usually opt for more cushion for trainers, but I recently got a pair of NB Zante v1 for doing faster base building days (easy intervals and tempos over the summer / early in the XC season) and I have liked them. They do seem to run a bit small though
Boston Boost or Adios if you wanna go faster
Mizuno Wave Hitogami 2 ... I love that freaking shoe.
I use it for shorter faster stuff and gonna race in it... and go longer/easy days in the Wave Sayonara .
wear your racing flats (if you need to break them in or acclimate your body to the pounding) or your trainers. don't over-think this.tempos don't deserve special shoes, in my opinion. i always use my heaviest, most supportive shoes i own, especially if i am doing the tempo on pavementmakes races feel awesome and light.

If you think the Pegasus feel like a racing flat then each of Nike's current racing flats will blow your mind. The Pegasus are the most bulky shoes in my rotation. Currently have Pegasus, Elite 8, Lunaracer, Lunarspider, Streak 6, Flyknit Racer, Flyknit Lunar 1 and 2, and Lunartempo.
I'd encourage you to try the lunartempo before lunaracers, flyknit racers, or streaks as the latter 3 are much lighter and have a harder feel which would be a very big jump from the Pegasus.
The Pegasus would most certainly work, but to me it is a bit heavy and soft for a true tempo shoe. It's a great everyday trainer, though! If you want something a bit lighter and more responsive and since you seem to like Nike, I recommend the Elite 8. It strikes a great balance between being light enough to feel fast while still having a ton of cushion. It's a do-anything type of shoe for me. Good luck, and welcome back!
The Nike Lunartempo is a really good one, and it's on a great sale on Jackrabbit. I have it. Light, fast, and a bit more protection and durability than a racing flat.
