I’m taking up the rowing machine by choice, just to try something new that isn’t disgusting like crossfit, and while I’ve learned a lot in my three days of trying it (and searching old threads—e.g. I should aim for 25-27 strokes/min, 30 is for lactic effort more or less, it’s legs-back-arms, arms-back-legs, put the resistance at 4-5 only), I still have some questions:
1) Where should the handle hit my chest at the end of the pull? The bottom of my pecs, the middle of my stomach, somewhere else?
2) Where should I hold the handle? At the very end, at the very centre? Wherever feels natural?
3) How far should I let my arms go forward at the end of the stroke? Almost to the front of the machine, just until my chest is at 1 o’clock, somewhere in between?
4) What are the equivalent paces in time/500m for say a 7:00 min/mile easy run, a 5:00-5:20/mile tempo, etc?
5) What holes should I use for my feet if I’m 6’3’’ (1.90m), like 5?
6) Can I wear gloves, or should I just let the blisters morph into callouses?
I think that’s it. Feel free to answer a subset of the questions, or add anything else you wish people like me would understand; I clearly know next to nothing, so anything helps. Thanks!
