Recently, I've been running about 50 miles a week. Yesterday at the end of a run, I felt a dull pain under the first metatarsal as in the bottom of the foot/ inner arch area. I didn't think anything of it because it felt fine when I stopped, and I have random aches and pains running a lot.
Today, I ran and didn't feel anything for the first four miles. However, I felt a stabbing pain in the same area bottom of the foot (medial side), between the crest of the arch and ball of the foot. I would feel a sharp pain that would only last a stride or two and then would go away completely. I continued to run the two miles home and felt the pain a few more times. Stabbing, almost stopped me in my tracks, but it went away after a stride or two each time. I think it happened most when changing directions.
Currently, the foot feels fine. I have tried running for a few strides and feel nothing. However, I am afraid of the stabbing pains returning if I really go out an run.
What could cause this? Plantar fasciitis? I have no pain in the heel and the pain in the arch is more towards the ball than the back of the foot. It also doesn't feel stiff. Just had those stabbing pains running. About four years ago, I had plantar fasciitis and it was more like a pain in my heel that felt stiff and resulted from the tendon being too tight. Anyone ever experience something similar? Any idea what is causing this?
