Incorrect. He mentally and physically bonked. He had trouble making turns the last part. Hat weight had no impact on his placing. He is lucky to not drop back to fourth or worse.

Yes, it's too bad that he only got a Bronze Medal in the Olympic Games in his second ever Marathon. So many, here on LetsRun have done so much better over the years. Galen Rupp - GOAT.

I wore a hat on my daily run to keep the sun out of my face. About midway through, my head was getting hot so I took the hat off. After taking my hat off, my body was much better at dissipating heat though my head.

If Rupp had ditched his hat and not gotten replacements, he would have been able to dissipate heat better and he would have gotten silver.

Yeah and kiochoge would've run a world record if he didn't wear a hat

Regardless of the number of marathons that a person has run, it is possible for extra heat and weight to impact their performance.

NOP runners came home with three golds and one bronze. The guy with the bronze is the only one to bother with an intricate hat game during his event rather than just running. Just sayin'. Sorry, not sorry. #coolslang

Yeah but did he have a faster 42.2k than rupp? No one likes a Monday morning quarterback.

When the guy only gets a bronze at the Olympics and on a muggy wet day finishes a little more than a minute behind a 2:03 marathoner, the question has to be why did he fail so badly.

Ward had a faster final 2k than anyone except Kipchoge. Were they all wearing hats? Did Galen's hat help him stay with Kipchoge on the 14:26 5k from 30 to 35k when Ward ran 15:40?

If he didn't run the 10K he would have probably had a clear silver over Feyisa. I think the peaking for the 10K and the 10K final itself negatively impacted his marathon performance.

If Rupp had ditched his hat and not gotten replacements, he would have been able to dissipate heat better and he would have gotten silver.

What what your strategy with the hat after taking it off? Did you carry it or throw it away? The former would affect my form. I think the latter would have had a negative impact on my run psychologically - knowing I had needlessly lost a hat I'd spent $20 on.

He's quoted as stating that his calves were cramping up in the last miles.

It's unlikely that he's run many long runs on pavement, other his first marathon.

The 10000m all-out race the weekend before. Who knows.

You obviously failed to watch the Rio marathon. If you had you would know 4th place closed a huge amount on Rupp as Rupp was fading. That effort took a toll on 4th place but they went for it as they should have.

Rupp has problems with his physicality. He had trouble making turns. His feet and legs were shot. His mentality helped him keep on going.
