What do? Should I just spray them with the can even though its cold when it comes out. Was too embarrassed to ask my coach.

Could be worse. Could have athletes balls on your foot.
Is he fast? What kind of athlete are we talking about? Sub-15?
Ask him politely to please remove his foot.

It's called jock itch. Use the same stuff as for Athlete's Foot. Try Lotrimin.
Wanna toe job?
Also OP you should trim your pubes and not wear wet clothes; there's nothing "manly" or attractive-- let alone health-- about growing a goddamn clown wig down there.

Do an image search for Rob Tyner (of the the band the MC5) or Oscar Gamble (baseball player)...
If your pubes look like that, you're a fool, a clown and a breeding ground for every kind of bacteria known to man and beast.
Genital hygiene is not a crime.

Genital hygiene and shaving/trimming are not the same thing. You're being a bigot and body shaming. There are lots of ways to be hygienic without cutting any hair. Daily washing is an easy example.
Jock itch and athletes foot is the same thing... a fungus. Although there are different types of fungus and sometimes one anti-fungal will work better than another.
Go to a pharmacy or the pharmacy section of a supermarket. Get Lotramin lotion and Tinactin spray. I'd suggest you get both because you don't know which will be best for the fungus you have. Their active ingredients are different.
I'd alternate and use them both for a few days. This is not a big deal. I get jock itch almost every summer. Just treat it and you'll be fine. Try to get out of wet clothes as soon as possible. That will help.
All of this. Sitting around in wet shorts is the most likely thing to cause it. I second the idea to try multiple brands. Some work better different types of fungus, so you have to find what works on what you have now. P.S. Amount of pubes/hair have nothing to do with it. Whoever said that is an idiot.

Trim yourself you g.d. dirty ape... Who are you, the 1000 year old man with Harpo Marx in your pants?
this might be the first time LRC is actually useful, due to the sheer body of knowledge on this subject.

Is it Draymond Green's?
If you can find a private place, I would recommend sitting out in the sun with the area exposed. The fungus likes dark, wet places and it seems like the sun dries it out and kills it. I honestly don't know the science behind it but it has worked for me in the past extremely quickly compared to the crème or sprays which can take weeks to clear.
I know this sounds ridiculous but it has worked for me.
Always dry off top down. Never start drying your feet then going up your legs. Last place to dry is your feet.
