Whenever I get into oxygen debt, the first thing that starts to hurt is always my quads. This happens on long runs and tempos especially. It feels like I just did some heavy squats and I'm trying to get in one last rep, and it usually starts well before the usual burning sensation in the chest and lungs. Even when my breathing is still under control I'm always hitting the wall on long workouts because of this, and I know I could go faster if it wasn't holding me back. It goes away if i stop for a few seconds, and it never happens when I'm running faster than about mile pace. Is it something to do with the fast twitch/slow twitch fibers, or is it just the way my body processes oxygen?
