The Undisputed Top 4 Potato Chips on Earth

I'm not big on the powdered milk but I am with you on the plain potato chips. I am a Lays Original fan.

I'd go

1) Lays Original

2) Ruffles Original

3) Plain, salted tortilla chips (freshly fried at a local Mexican joint being best)

4) Cape Cod Kettle Cooked Jalapeno

Regular Lays are good, but I think a more substantial chip Js preferred.

Never understood the draw of ruffles. Potato chips are great on their own. They don't need dip like corn tortilla chips do.

I do like to mix corn and potato chips for nachos though.

Wise Original Golden should get a mention.

When they stopped frying with beef tallow the chip world changed forever.

Lays and Ruffles are terrible. Pringles are the best.

But no matter what kind of chip you eat, dip them in ketchup, not a mayo-based dip. Potato chips are just cold french fries shaped different. Dip them in mayonnaise? Like Jules said, "yuck!"

And it's always worth repeated that without the genius of the Mesoamericans, we would not have potatoes or even corn, which means no chips at all, just disgusting wheat-based crackers.

They're not fries at all. Fries at blanched to par-cook then before they're fried. Chips aren't.

I don't use any dip but most dip is actually dairy based (sour cream), not mayonnaise based.

I would replace one of the sour cream with waves (I think by layes).

You can juggle the 4 but no other chips belong in the top 4. You can bring up some boutique brand or Boulder, Kettle or Charles (which all have merit) but they are not a chip you can eat day in day out until the end of time.

Tortilla chips are not potato chips...they're made from corn.
