She posted the following on facebook after the race:
I am very proud and honored to have finished 4th in my 3rd Olympic Games. It was a long journey with many ups and downs but nothing compares to wearing Team USA's uniform on the big stage. I want to thank my family, friends, teammates, coaches, and those who have helped me get through the last 4 years with their love and support. Thank you.
My A/D wants to start using Cisco Web Conferencing cloud services at our local meets to allow athletes to have interviews from social media users, web users, and old fashioned media. Maybe Apple, Microsoft, Google, or Android has something comparable.
I wonder why I don't see her comments listed on my end (facebook)? Well good, glad she posted. I'm a fan.
San Francisco people live in their own world.
She's on the 1500m start list for Paris
Good call, OP. The coverage of her has been very quiet.

Actually, she posted this to Instagram after the race:

She came on here starting a whole lot of threads trashing Jenny Simpson.

I understand not wanting to do it but you are a professional. It is part of your job. It is a requirement for competing at the Olympics that you go through the mixed zone after racing unless you are injured. She was the only athlete that I know of that didn't make it through.
Shows how crushed she was. Tomorrow's 1500 vs Simpson will be interesting as no doubt Shannon wants revenge. She can't get the medal but she can lower her AR.
American track fans should be grateful that they have Simpson and Rowbury around at the same time and not nitpick and belittle so much.

I agree. I love it!!!

Is this true?
It's a requirement for most professional athletes to answer questions from the press. I don't blame athletes for not wanting to talk after disappointing results, but it's normally part of the job.
I suppose showing up and saying "I'm just here so I don't get fined" counts in other sports. AFAIK no one ever actually gets fined for skipping the mixed zone in track, like Ben Blankenship jumping the fence last year.
Probably a custom, not a requirement. Of course, it's in journalists' interest to say it's a requirement.

She's probably considering retirement. As far as Rowbury vs Simpson goes, Jenny sealed the deal as the best female 1500 meter runner of the modern era with her Olympic medal. Before you could make comparisons between the two, but the only thing that Shannon had is the American record, and the fact that Jenny didn't make the Olympic final in 2012. Now with the Medal, Jenny has out performed her on every major stage. Shannon is going to 32 in a few weeks, and 36 when the next Olympics roll around. From here she can either try to move up in distance, or embrace the slow steady decline in the 1500. Probably she will take the Kara Goucher route and realize she can no longer compete with younger girls with fresher legs, then she will in acts of desperation to stay relevant try to bring attention to herself. Eventually just fading away all together ( whens the last time you've heard of Kara?) Its the circle of life.

It's not a 'requirement'. Officials want you to, but you don't have to.

It's always been that you have to walk through the Mixed Zone but don\'t have to answer any questions. The Yanks this year at USA meetings are installing remote/video Mixed Zones with broadcasting and queuing for questioners/press, essentially to avoid litigation from social media corporations.

In other words, "Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?"
