Would you rather be rich or fast at running?

How slow would you be? I need more numbers. 5-10% bracket would be how much in the bank and how much passive income per year?

Rich and super slow would suck.

Rich and 5:00min/mile would be ok.

Of course rich. Running can go to hell.

You only get to dictate one side of the terms. You want a min 5min mile, you're going to be much less well off than that.

If you want those terms - the couple mil in the bank and 500k/yr you are at a current best of 6:48 for the mile. That's a single mile, all out, puking at the end.

Those are the terms.

No brainer. Question should be would you rather be rich but only have 1 leg to run on. But I still think everyone if being honest would say rich. And not necessarily super rich but enough to do whatever you want vs working full time.

Lol. I wouldn't even care about running anymore. Maybe just a few sprints up the hill here and there while I laugh my way to the bank.

I think I overestimated the importance of running as a hobby/passion for a lot of people. Or is money simply the end to all means?

I thought the letsrun CEOs, alpha males, and rich guys would scoff at the notion of a lowly 500k income a year.

You spend the majority of the prime years of your life working to make $ to pay the bills so yeah $ becomes the 'end all' not necessarily by choice but basic need. Not to have 40+ hrs/week already taken up by work would be priceless. Running fast just doesn't compare.

An interesting question would be what would people do if they had all that free time. I'm thinking not every person would be into living the extravagant, lavish lifestyles many celebrities live. Without "work" to occupy 40 hours of their time/week would they just crazy bored?

I ran 1:57 /4:26 in HS 15yrs ago and I made 245k last year and maybe make 275k this year. But I am beyond out of shape where people at my work can't believe I was once a runner.

I love my job , but nothing was as fun as competitive track workouts and working at the local running store living paycheck to paycheck.

Here's proof. You weren't even that fast then and you aren't making much money now so you have the worst of both worlds.

I currently have a 5:07 mile. I'm training to get it under 5 one last time before I am to old to keep progressing it.

I also am doing well money wise. I started a business 10 years ago, and it's gone well.

This thread has made me ask myself: if I could trade in cash to get a faster mile, or a fast enough 5k that I could dominate a local race, would I? Definitely not.

The thing is, I don't think you have to earn money to really enjoy it. But, I don't think I'd enjoy being faster if I didn't earn it. If you're just going to wave a wand and make me faster or richer, I'll take richer. If you make me faster you'd be depriving me of the awesome feeling that I earned those faster times. That wouldn't be worth it at all.
