My twin 12 year old boys are 7th graders this year, and just started running XC for their school. Since this is their first year, I don't really know anything about their coach, or his philosophies.
While I was never a word beater myself, I do have several years of XC and running experience. Because of this, I have questioned some of the things he is doing. He tends to have them run a lot on the track doing 400's, 800's, etc., and less of an emphasis on aerobic mileage. When they do just "run", it is always on the roads. I took my boys, and some of their friends to the school course this weekend to do a longer run, and some of the kids did't even realize that XC was run on grass.
They have their first meet this Tuesday, and the coach has stated in their schedule that Wednesday will be a track workout. While I realize that there is a time for back to back hard stuff, I tend to subscribe to the fact that hard days are better followed by easy days.
Is there a good way to approach the coach with concerns/questions without coming across as "that Dad"? I'm not trying to undermine him, but I want to keep my boys healthy, enjoying the sport.
