The only people who defend Semenya running as a woman know nothing about sports.
They defend her on a humanitarian basis without realizing that it's not a humanitarian issue, its a sporting issue. If she were barred from competition because of some discrimination against letting intersex people compete, then they would be completely correct in defending her right to compete and I'd be joining them 100%.
But that's not at all the issue. The issue is if a mix between a man and a woman should be able to compete in the protected women's class of sports. And the answer is an obvious no. That's why we have a women's class in the first place! There would be nothing wrong with Semenya competing against men, who she is physically more similar to.
The problem is non-sports people who are very focused on discrimination issues just hear that there is an outcry about a woman being able to do something and they've already made up their mind. They don't pay attention to any detail beyond that. They just assume it's a humanitarian thing and so deny any legitimate argument as discrimination because of their refusal actually take a look at what is happening.
Most times these people would probably be on the right side of things - usually when you hear about discrimination there is actual real discrimination going on. But on this issue these people are being incredibly naive, and quite frankly ignorant, and unwilling to make more than a cursory glance at the situation before coming to a final and unwavering decision.
