Admit it, you guys were losing your marbles when the Kenyans beat the Americans in the OT trials. Now you guys are going "Chelimo, Chelimo!"

Paul Chelimo
Imagine if Ben True made the team, finished second, got DQed and the got reinstated for Silver.
This place would be nuts.

Could it be that the people who don't like Kenyans competing for US are DIFFERENT PEOPLE than the ones excited for the Chelimo silver?
This is a huge deal. Chelimo was entirely unheralded. If Centro wasn't the big story right now, Chelimo would be the highlight of these games for distance runners I think (very debatable though considering Jager and Murphy)
He PR'd by 16 seconds. Thats HUGE!

Of course I do know that there are two groups of people. But there is so much animosity towards them after the trials.
Just note that at the trials for some, having Kenyan-born athletes get the spots was the issue for them, whereas here the issue is just how good the Americans do. My only thought about Chelimo making it then was that he had never run anything close to competitive on the world stage. He has done that in one fell swoop, and he was incredible today.
I have loved seeing Chelimo, Kipchirchir, and others representing the USA.
These guys went to college here, trained and lived here, and wanted to stay here. In order to make that happen, they JOINED THE FVCKING ARMY!!!!!
How many of the fvckwits on this message board have served in the military?
And of course, there's Lagat! The guy loves this country more than most people born here.

We're a country with a state that has a motto "The Show Me State."
We're also a country that Respects any man or woman who joins our military because they want to be an American bad enough.
(You know, cos like, there's a decent chance of going into conflict/war.)
And, Chelimo ran like a man with desire. It was a great achievement for him, and a bad ass run, which, whatever country you are from, all the noodnicks of LRC seems to uniformly appreciate.
I'm glad an American got silver in the 5000 today.
As for the Trials, the best Americans qualified. Period. They're citizens. That's how I thought then, and that's how I think now.
God Bless the USA

They joined the Army knowing that they had to go through basic and then get put into the Army World Class Athlete Program. Where they have coaches, training facilities, nutritionists, recovery equipment, etc. that are not available to anyone else in the Army.
Not that I am trying to denigrate either of them, as there is absolutely nothing wrong with it either, but to hold them up as shining examples of awesome for joining the Army when they were basically just did Basic and then NOTHING having anything to do with the Army except running in "Army" jerseys is silly.

I hereby repent. Yea, I admit fully to screaming at the top of my lungs at my TV this evening. Exhorting Chelimo as if he were Billy Mills and.Uncle Sam combined.
Yes, I am guilty. I previously did not embrace Mr Chelimo.
I'm still kind of conflicted about the whole Army thing but, Mr. Chelimo, sir, you have earned a fan tonight.
Thanks.
