NBC Olympics T&F web page says "Decathlon World Record Watch: Ashton Eaton on Pace with Two Events to go." Did Tom Hammond write the headline, because he is not on WR pace at all?

He actually is on pace (to crush it) if you thought about it as even points per event.

In reality all of the decathletes have abysmal 1500s compared to their other events, so he isn't going to break the WR (unless he closes great). But he is technically on pace.

He loses if he loses by 7 seconds to mayer!

Well, if they think Eaton can run the 1500 in 4:01.62 I guess let them live in whatever reality Eaton can run that fast in. That's what it would take for 9046. If Eaton runs a decent time he will win, Mayer needs to be 6-7 second ahead of him to do it, and Eaton has the better PB.

Crouser 21.15 great first throw.

He's actually done quite well in most events. His LJ, shot put, and discus were better than his 2015 WR, and his HJ and polevault equaled his 2015 marks. His 100m, 400m, 110H and Javelin were all weaker than in 2015, however, some by a decent margin. Not terribly surprising, given that his 100m and 400m were so outstanding in Beijing - I would think that those times would be hard to replicate.
