Pr last yr for the 5k was 17:45 (flat course), went into track wanting to run 10:20's hopefully, so i increased from 30ish miles to 40ish and then i got injured, im really not sure why, I increased slowly, but it was a weird ankle injury, i ended up taking 3 whole months off, so I missed the entire track season. I started up slowly and have been at higher mileage than I've ever been (40-50) for the last month (I started training again in May, so its been 3.5 months).
I ran a 2 mile in 12:14 on the track recently and a 19:15 for the 3 mile a couple weeks ago. What gives?
Changes:
I've moved to higher altitude (0 ft to 5000 ft)
Injured for 3 months and getting back into it
Much higher mileage than ever before
I've only done base work (tempos, easy, long), but even last year off 20-25 mpw over the summer I ran 12:30 for the 2 mile at this time.
Does it make sense that I am not running fast now even though I've increased my mileage significantly? Am I still getting iback in shape from the injury? Am I not used to racing bc I havent raced since last November (I ran a 3 mile tempo in 19:25 a week before the race and it felt like a tempo, i defiantly wasn't racing it)? Or am I just bad
