A cliff cares about when where centre of mass is. Miller was on the wrong side of the cliff.

We've had this convo before (remember the photo of Ffoxxy vs. Tarmoh).
Ffoxxy's problem in these situations is the customary one for runnergirls, of not being well-endowed. Now, I agree that Miller's in the same boat but she knew this and acted accordingly to project her measurable torso across the line first. This was smart and bold competing from Miller. She deserved to win.
My thoughts on diving:
Diving helps on the longer races where you are running at a slower speed at the end of the race. Diving would never help in a 100 sprint but becomes more helpful the slower runners are moving at the end.
Intentional diving is dangerous and diving is NOT running so it should not be allowed in a running competition.
As far as this particular case (Felix/Miller), I noticed a couple things from looking at the tape, the speed of Millers dive was faster than Felix's run. However, although Felix came from behind, right at the end even before the dive, miller came back and was ahead when she dived.
Waaaahh, Waaahhh, the American girl lost.
Get over it.
Yes, because her torso crossed the line before Felix's did. It doesn't matter where her "back half" is. Where do you people come from?! Do you really not know the most fundamental rules of track?

That photo shows the lower half of Miller behind the back half of Felix.
Only the arms and one-half of Miller's body are at the finish line.
What is she stopped right there as in your photo? The other runners pass her across the line. Is Miller your winner?
It's a dirty trick way to finish a race. Should be banned. A very dishonorable way to 'run'. Especially for a woman.

Yeah, that and the fact that Felix's didn't even dope at the line. Did she even want to win?
*dip. Darn auto correct.
Right now under present racing rules, I don't think its dishonorable or cheating because there really is no rule against it.But there should be.(I don't get the woman part of your post)

If Felix was further ahead her dive wouldn't have mattered. As far as I'm concerned its a great effort and a good victory for miller.
Y'all, quit feeding the trolls. Miller gave her all and rigged at the line like Q. Cassidy. Couldn't ask for more. Great race!
The race & finish were awesome.
I'm very sad Felix didn't win. But she was beat fair and square.
All that matters is who crosses the line first.
What's wrong with diving?

The dive did win it for her. This reminds me of the Fosbury flop controversy back in the 70's. Should the dive be allowed? I say yes. But it's a tough call.

It's there to confirm he/she's a troll.
Good grief, what a load of whiners
Get over it losers.
The rule is clear stop arguing about centre of mass and all this nonsense.
Track is the only racing event that uses torso why not the nose like in horse racing? Hand like in swimming? I could go on and on.
When you participate in a sport you must know the rules. You all clearly don't participate in track.

I thought the dive was awesome! I was a little sad that Felix didn't win but I loved the drama of the dive. So much commitment!
And did you see the slo-mo of Miller sliding across the track? Ouch. It makes track more like Nascar, and people love Nascar.
I also thought the dive was awesome! And, I was a little sad that Felix didn't win it.
And, the first thing I thought was, she wanted it the most. Total sacrifice.
What would people be saying if Gatlin had dived at the line to nip Bolt?
Or are speeds too fast in 100m sprinting to make diving effective?
The times imply about half a meter of separation. According to the photo it looks like a few centimeters (belly button to belly button). Actually Felix's breasts are exactly on the line drawn through Miller's belly button. The criteria for victory (torso-only) were constructed under the assumption of two upright human beings, not human beings sprawling across the finish line. It's not hard to dislike this result.
