Good question !
It is past due as the ZE8 was released Jul '15.
Someone posted the same about 2-3 months ago and asked to verify a rumor, rumor only, that there would be significant changes.
Is the 8 continuing to soften ? I love the fit, but the arch.midfoot is really hard.
Time to look for a new trainer. New Elite coming this summer is a full on racing flat. No longer a work horse trainer.

Meaning a Streak LT type, or a Skylon throwback sorta flat/sorta trainer?

I hope not! I already abandoned the Vomero 11 because it's too soft. It aggravated my achilles and generally feels unresponsive compared to the Vomero 10. Although the Elite 8 is a bit firm for my liking, it's still responsive and protective enough as a daily trainer. The lateral outsole "rail" is very durable; the forefoot outsole is reasonably durable too.
Perhaps the Pegasus 33 is now filling the role of Nike's performance trainer which would change the purpose of the Elite 9.
jackrabbit is having a Flash Sale today, ZE for $59.97 plus shp/tx.
Last month they just released a new grey/white color of ZE8...I have seen pictures but no specs on the new ZE9 too bad if its going minimal stock up on ZE8 yes but solution is another unbiased (no slant heel) workhorse trainer. Possibly: asics dynaflyte, NB Vazee pace?
Zoom Elite 9 is on sale Jan 1st 2017.
I got to play around in one that the Nike Sales Rep had on hand. It's one super badass shoe! Totally different from the Zoom Elite 8, the 9 is very close to the Zoom Streak 6, but a little beefier and with the zoom air unit in the forefoot.
Is this it?

It's an odd website for showcasing an unreleased shoe. If it's truly the Zoom Elite 9, then I can see the comparison to the Streak 6. What concerns me is the waffle pattern throughout the entire outsole. It wouldn't wear very well in high impact areas even for a speed-oriented shoe. Also, there's less contact area laterally relative to the medial side. This is something which makes the Elite 8 uniquely useful for supination. I do like the apparent less extreme heel bevel which might provide less lateral or medial bias. I was told by Runningwarehouse.com to expect a second quarter 2017 release.

Can anyone confirm that this is the elite 9 posted above. It looks like the real thing, but it sort of looks like it was out for awhile already. When I search for the elite 9 nothing comes up, only the 8's.

Looks fake. I would go with RW info.
Elite 9 is a January 2017 release. The shoe is closer to the Streak 6 than the Elite 8.
Goes up to $120.
Forefoot Zoom Air
Seamless mesh upper with Flywire cables
Cushion LT midsole foam
I just received the zoom elite 9 that I bought from a Chinese factory/store for about $70. So assuming they aren't fake or anything, they are completely different. I had the elite 8 and loved them because they were very comfortable and a great shoe for long runs. These are pretty much full on racing flats, which I wasn't expecting at all and the insert has "Racing" on it. Though I'm okay with it I guess because I have the Pegasus 33 that I'm using right now and I can switch them out. The zoom air unit in the forefoot isn't nearly as pronounced either. Another thing I noticed was that the tounge is very thin and if you don't watch yourself you can tie the laces too tight and it digs into your foot. I still have to run in them to see how they hold up.

Would you md posting some pics with an imgur link or something? Very curious.
Do you need the new model? I'm pretty sure I'm frugal and all but why not the $55 Elite 7's:
???
I think another poster mentioned the 8's for not a whole lot more too.
Yeah I'll post a couple pics in a few hours. I ran in them for the first time and they're very flexible and light as expected. I would guess they're about 7.5 - 8 ounces. The new bottom they put on helps a lot with flexibility. They don't have much in the cushioning department as most racing flats don't and would be a little firm for everyday trainers. I feel like they're going to be great for tempo's and speed work. The heel-toe drop feels about the same as the elite 8's, though overall feeling during the run doesn't seem as smooth.
I'll confirm that the link posted for shoebrandshop appears to have the actual elite 9s. the guy who said he bought them from a chinese factory may have something different because the ones I received do not have "racing" on the insole. they have "runfast"
I'll also say that it's not really a daily trainer kind of shoe, it feels more like a marathon shoe or a tempo run shoe. I've done 18 miles in them and they felt fine the whole time, and my feet never ached.
I have it in two albums so there are two links. Here's the first one

The lighting isn't the greatest but it's what I had to work with.

Thanks a lot for going to the trouble to post those. Really cool shoes! I like that new sole bottom.
The ZE9 is already available in Japan (link to the Nike Store is next):
