That is Lee LaBadie's job.
He should pray only. Athletes always give all credit to god.
Have you guys and gals seen the heats for tomorrow's semis?
Murphy's heat is LOADED.
We've pasted them below.
One would think that world record holder, reigning Olympic and World Champ David Rudisha would advance. One would think that last year's silver medallist Adam Kszczo , who won the European championships, would advance. 2013 bronze medallist Ayanleh Souleiman is also in the heat and he also looked great yesterday.
And there are only 2 auto qualifiers.
The problem for Murphy is he's a noted come from behind runner. Do you change your strategy and try to set the pace? Or do you hope that someone else makes it fast and you get in on time? Or do you just hope to somehow get top 2?

So if you were coaching him, what would you tell him to do?
I think Murphy's just outgunned and very possibly past his peak for the year. If I had to pick a strategy for him right now, I'd tell him to stick with the usual come-from-behind stuff and hope it works out.

No, only the athletes who have faith in God give Him credit. I would tell him to run it like it's the final & not a semi. Balls to the walls fast
Omg, the dreaded Heath of Death!
Game over, Clayton
Lewandowski isn't in his heat, Kszczkskhcshzhfzot is. Hard to see him advancing from that but I would say now is a opportunity for a big PB
No one has actually said what they would do if they were coaching him.
I mean he can kind of hope that maybe Souleiman takes it out hard.
Those guys can't be happy to be in this heat.
I mean if you are Kszczot you aren't happy with this heat either. YOu are thinking, "Damn, I'm a near lock for a medal but i might finish 3rd in this heat and bomb out."
Is Rudisha happy? I doubt it. If I was coaching Murphy, I"d say "let's hope souleiman or Rudisha take it out but if not, we need to go out in 52 flat at the slowest. So try to run a 51.5 and hope someone is ahead of you.
Heat 2 is pretty stacked too, with 5 legit medal contenders.
He should go out fast, hold it, then kick it in.
Berian's got it worse in Heat 2. Kipketer, Berian, McBride, Aman, Tuka.

*Puzzle*

Boris: I'd like to solve the puzzle
Pat Sajak: okay go ahead
Boris: HOT DOG!
He should run as fast as he can. If he knows he has top 2 locked up at the end he can ease up, but otherwise, run fast. Seems pretty easy.
But seriously this mid-distance and distance complaining of: the semi field is hard, noone else set the pace, what about his/her racing style... its annoying. If you're good enough, you set the pace or you out-kick. You adapt to different race senarios or you are good enough with your chosen strategy that it doesn't matter. If the officials rule the race was fair, then anything else is excuse making.
I know Murphy hasn't complained about his semi. Just saying this is the kinda stuff we hear in distance racing.
Ex: hope someone else takes it out fast so i can hit the standard....
Ledecky smashed her own 800 free WR with no one remotely close to her.
I would prefer to look at Heat 2. it has...
Kipketer
Berian
McBride
Aman
Tuka
All who should be finalists in theory...but at least 1, and possibly 3, will not.
I'm gonna say Berian makes it fast, gets third though. Kipketer and Tuka make it in auto, Berian makes it on time, McBride possible (All based on Berian making it super fast)
May as well do the other 2 heats I guess..
Heat 1
Bosse
Makh
Heat 3
Rudisha
Kszczot
Souleiman (time)

Set a fast pace if Rudisha doesn't. That way if he doesn't finish high enough to get an auto spot, he can still maybe get through on time (if they're doing that). Also if the pace is fast, maybe one of the favorites might not be up for it and falter.
He should key off of one guy. I would make that guy Kszczot.
Tuck in after the break, stay in whatever position you are in through 300m, then get on Kszcot's shoulder on the straight. Stay there and hope you have enough to swing around him and finish top-2.
Who knows, you may make him nervous enough that he starts a kick from further out.
The person that could throw a wrench into everyone's plan is obviously Rudisha. If he goes 52.5 through 400m, no one is going to be in front of him, and you are looking at probably a 1:46-high heat.
Sit and kick--it's what he knows and this heat isn't going out slow, especially being the last heat. And I doubt Rudisha will let anyone else lead.
I think he should run really fast.
