Grant fisher also has about 9 seconds in hunter in the 3000m
Very possibly Hunter could take him in the 1,500, but I would not bet against the more mature athlete at the longer distance.
We'll see Hunter's current 1500 fitness tonight, as he's racing at Sir Walter Miler.
Actually Grant is only about 2 weeks "more mature" than Hunter which puts things in perspective when comparing high school performance. Hunter was nowhere near as good, given the age, as Grant was in High School. Hunter was basically a college aged man running high school. Grant will slap him down like the bitchboy he is when it comes to the big boy racing in college this year.

except for the fact that Drew went Pro. Sorry....forgot that small detail. Good Luck Drew! Maybe Drew and Grant will face off in some of the big pro/college meets.

Hunter beat Fisher twice as a HS Junior. Hunter also didn't start training hard until 10th grade.
I don't know why one of these athletes needs to be put down to elevate the other. They're both fantastic. They both have hunter-gatherer names. Hopefully they both represent the US in 2020, 2024, or 2028.
TrackBot! PRs Matthew Maton
PRs for Matthew Maton:
800 m (Outdoor): 1:50.73 on 28 Apr 2016
1500 m (Outdoor): 3:38.62 on 12 Jun 2016
One Mile (Outdoor): 3:59.38 on 8 May 2015
3000 m (Outdoor): 8:18.66 on 19 Apr 2014
3000 m (Indoor): 7:53.16 OT on 27 Feb 2016
5000 m (Outdoor): 14:20.58 on 31 Jul 2015
Distance Medley (Indoor): 9:27.27 on 11 Mar 2016
I am a bot. Info:
Maybe over 1500 but I highly doubt Hunter could run 13:30 especially given that he's never run a 5k on the track. Plus Fischer was way better over 3k indoors and nearly broke 7:50.
OK, who cares about hypothetical head-to-head silliness?
The big question: Hunter with one leg tied behind his back, and Fisher with his brain stored in a jar of formaldahyde in a Stanford science lab, would they still beat...MIKE DITKA? Nah, DITKA wins every time. DITKA!!!!!!!!!!!!

"nowhere near as good"?
2015 comparison:
Mile: Fisher 3:59.38 vs. 4:02.36
2 Miles: Hunter 8:42.51 vs. 8:43.57
FL XC: 15:02.1 vs. 15:13.2
Head-to-Head: Hunter 2 (2 Mile, 1500m), Fisher 2 (Mile, XC)
I'd say they were VERY similar. I'd give Fisher the edge, but not by a lot. Neither was clearly better at longer distances (Hunter won @ 2 mile, Fisher @ XC) or shorter distances (split in their match-ups at 1500m-mile). Only reason I'd give Fisher the slight edge is that his mile mark is the most impressive of their season bests + FL race.

Not two weeks. Four months and two weeks. Fisher April; Hunter September.
Fisher has figured out that his future is not at 1500m/mile. Hunter needs to do the same. He's not going to be locked into college xc but there's no getting around the work necessary to make himself a true distance runner.
Habs, despite a few errors here and there and an incomplete database, you really have to be saluted for this program. Great job!
Fisher has the benefit of outstanding college training partners like Sean McGorty for his strength. His 7:50 indicated that he could have likely run a good 1500m this year. After all, Maton ran only 7:53 but ran 3:38.
I am sorry that Hunter went pro, but I hope that he does not give up the cross country season. That is one of the major errors that pros like Wheating (but not Centro) make.
What is fisher's predicted 800m time
Wait... Grant Fisher is a year young? or Drew Hunter is a year old like Maton?
Drew Hunter turned 19 on May 9th according to his All-Athletics profile, so I guess he is a year behind in school. I didn't know that.
He hasn't turned 19, won't until September.

I found the illiterate! Must be a HIllary supporter. HARHARHAR!
Yeah, turning 19 as a college freshman is not old, you dumb dumb idiot.
Or I'm just British and didn't remember the difference between 05/09 and 09/05 in the US.
