Given all the negativity that surrounds the IOC and the Olympic bid/location process, should the Olympics be held in the same city every four years and where?
Think of what that simple change would do.
- greatly impact corruption within the IOC and within each and every bid/host nation;
- eliminate host nations negative impact on tax payers;
- eliminate terrible host nation locations;
- eliminate unused athletic venues and maintenance costs once the games are over;
- eliminate the ridiculous and costly "officials" wine and dine tour that endlessly revolves in four year blocks;
- greatly reduce the desire of corrupt individuals to seek appointment to the IOC (country and international appointees);
- greatly reduce the size, cost, and power of the IOC.
Maybe this one simple solution would make for a more "pure" Olympics more focused on the athletes that enable the Olympics in the first place?
My vote for the Summer Olympic games venue: Athens Greece.
My vote for the Winter Olympic games venue: Not sure but would need to be in a safe, predictable cold winter climate with mountains and existing good infrastructure.
How would one location Olympics be paid for? All participating nations pay an annual cost. IOC, WADA, and International sport governing bodies would monitor those nations for compliance not only on payment but clean sport governance etc.
Of course the IOC is a private (very private) entity that would never go for the above suggestion. They would enlist their ideals of spreading world peace through sport and the need to host in different locations to foster such. Unfortunately, I say BS to that wonderful ideal as the IOC has proven, time-and-again, the Olympics are all about money, graft, and hanging on to the gravy-train that is forced upon tax payers to support.
