Hilarious, the Decathlete just put them in their places. Beach only 1.2 off Centro.

Just the other day he ran a respectable 400IH

Curtis Beach once ordered a plain bagle, but automatically got an everything bagle, with cream cheese. He's that good.

And keep in mind he probably does ~5-8 miles running per week.

Beat me to the punch! Beach is a beast. I like this guy, seems cool. And he can hang pretty well with the specialists.
I wouldn't call it hilarious. Beach's best event is the 800m and he won a national race at that distance in hs against some pretty fair competition. I always thought he should make the 800m his event, rather than the decathlon.

He has the decathlon 1500m record right?
Given what his reportedly non-existent weekly mileage, he should be able to improve his endurance capacity quite a bit, right? Then again, maybe changing things up after 10+ yrs would cause injury.
His 100m/200m is probably a bit faster than Rudisha, so if he could shift emphasis and really improve his endurance maybe he could be world class. Or maybe he'd top out at 1:45 which is still incredibly good but not as good as his decathlon marks.
Thing is, it's a total crapshoot. Maybe he has 1:40 potential. He'd want to run low 1:43 if not better. He probably sees himself as having world record potential in the decathlon, so focusing on the 800m is a little crazy and very risky.

He has been doing multis for what, 6 years? and hasn't even made a national team. He could have been on several teams for the 800 in that period, from all available evidence. And, I should add, with a lot less work overall.

And because of this everybody he beat over 800 and 400h in the last week+ should be forced to retire and never race again.
He should switch to the 400H/800 and move to NJ to train with Gags. He'd have to lose some muscle mass and lean out a bit, but I'm sure he would with more specific work.
He unfortunately has no future in the multi events. He's like the Reggie Bush of track.
What's the Heisman equivalent he is going to have to give back?

1:40? Heck, 1:35 AT LEAST.

He is stuck where is right at the edge in the Decathalon and not blatantly better in the 800/400h. Getting another 600-700pts in the decathalon is hard but not impossible. Dropping 3-4s in the 800 isn't easy either. Odds are he would end up as a 1:45/1:46 guy and be in pretty much the same spot.
I haven't tracked his progression in various events (or injury history) so it is hard to say what to do. And of course there is the money. Nike pays him to be decathlete. Would they pay for him to train for 2 years as an 800m dude?
I remember he ran like 1:50 in high school at NON getting outkicked by Robby Andrews in the last 100. Dude is a huge talent, not surprised to see him running this well.
You never really know with 800 potential. Some 400 guys run a quick 8 off of sprint training, move up and 2 years later have improved only about a second from that initial promising performance.
I think the 400h was more impressive.

No; Robert Baker still holds it -- 3:58.7.

So I click on this & still have to look up his time.
That's very true. I ran 2.00 as a long sprinter then moved up and run 2.00 again after a year then moved down again and finally ran 1.57... it's not that easy, maybe with a different training it wouldn't work that well for him. If a 400 metres runner wants to try 800s but loses his speed he is almost dead as an athlete.

You mean other than being national champ indoors and going on to finish 4th in the world...
Problem is the hept is his event, the decathlon has too many weak spots.
He is weak in SP, DT and JT. So basically all the throws. He is strong at 400, 1500, LJ. He is good at HJ, PV, 100m. He is decent at 110hs. In the Eptathlon he has just one throw and 1000m where he is better than 1500m.
