I will just start out by giving a background. I'm going into my senior year and my summer has been pretty terrible, however I still feel like it's early enough into the season to build up my mileage into something meaningful.
My weekly mileage has been this:
11.3, 12.9, 12.9, 10.5, 9.7, 22.6, 28, and the goal for this week is 25 since I can feel my recurring injury coming on from my posterior left shin.
My PR for the 5k is 19:48 and that was on a consistent 30 miles per week. I am extremely motivated this year and have been enjoying running more recently and wanted to get my mileage up to around 50. How long should I take to do this as I am very nervous about getting an injury.
Our coach has us running about 12 miles a week during the summer (he's a girls basketball coach and knows little about running) and last year had us running around 15-20 per week during the school year, so if anyone would also like to give some advice on how they squeeze in the extra mileage before or after practice that would be helpful too. I'm thinking about definitely doing a long run on the weekends and then just doing extra runs at night.
