Splits would be real nice if anyone has them. the last 400 was prob run in about 52, 53, just by thinking about these guys natural leg speeds.

I have never understood why Big 10s goes so slow, I know it is tatical and a championship race but are there really 10 guys who think they have the best finishing kick in the field?

What's the point of jogging a final? I could've won that damn thing. 2:33 800? I hope they realize taht's a joke.

hahaha...wow

probably a really exciting last 400 or so, i woulda liked to see that

and i dont see y people feel all betrayed if a championship race goes slowly, championship racees are not the place to run fast times, personally i couldnt give 2 shits about the clock in a conference or national meet
its to see who can win the race

now stupid for some people to let the race go so slowly...for everyone but jefferson in this case...but certainly not a sign of the downfall of American distance running as topics like these usually degenerate into

so chill with the comments like that race was a joke, it takes away from jeffersons accomplishment of becoming the big 10 mile winner over the best field in recent memory

Okay, let me rephrase this:

"The finishing time was a joke."

Any College race Mub can win isn't too fast.

Not to point out the obvious, but Mub couldn't have won the race. If Mub was in the race and took it out faster, they would have sat on him. That's the point: they were racing each other, not the clock or some virtual Mub.

Personally, I would have loved to see that race. The tension building, the jockeying for position for 800m, the pace picking up, and then pande-fricking-monium breaking loose for the last quarter.
the thing is...

The thing is you couldn't have won this race. If you were in the race and gone out in 2:10 then they would have sat on you and won. Sure the finishing time is a joke, but it happens all the time so no point in making such a big deal about it.

Just got back from the meet. Splits given above were taken at the finish line and not the start line, but yeah, they're pretty close. I had 75, 2:32, 3:32, 4:26. Willis took off with 200 to go and it looked like it was over, but Jefferson made up 5-7m in the last 100. 1:53ish for the last 800 made the race exciting, but the time was obviously a disappointment.

The other major surprise was Trammel Smith taking down Brannen in the 800m. They went 27, 55, 1:22, 1:49.9. Smith blew by everyone with a lap to go and seemed to catch Brannen offguard. Even so, Brannen nearly got him. I don't know if there's a way to get the finish line photo online anywhere, but I don't see how they seperated Smith and Brannen by 0.01 in the results. The only part of Brannen you could see on the photo was one of his legs.

uuummm...willis

and what do you mean dicking around
the point of this race was to declare big 10 champion over a mile with the understanding the it would be whoever crossed the line first

that was jefferson
goal accomplished

why would a race won in 4:10 be more exciting than this
in a race like that no part of it would be spectacular, just an average 56-7 last quarter or so

in a race like this at least we got to see it close in 53
