She will have the 100h Junior WR holder Dior Hall who missed all of last season with an injury and the 400h World Junior gold medalist to work with. I'm sure Smith-Gilbert is happy to have her, but I don't understand why UCLA let Joanna get away.
Coaching for the rival school.

UCLA's track program is a cesspool of incompetence and egos getting in the way of the development of the program. Good for Joanna Hayes getting the hell out of there.

Maynard or all the peripheral baggage that comes with accepting a job like that? Seemed like a sweet gig from the outside when it came open and he accepted, but then you get in there and you have to kiss everyone's azz just to get anything done. If you want to implement any new ideas or make any changes or put your mark on the program and your Larsens, Kersees, Godinas, Boldons etc. don't approve, well then forget it. If you try, it'll be hell and you get threatened with having your "backing/support" pulled from within that community. These people who don't even draw a paycheck from the school think they own the damn program! They walk around like they've won +100 national track team titles or four triple crowns, or are Pat Henry or John McDonnell, but guess what, THEY AREN'T!!! They were too busy getting their azz kicked by those guys or choking most of the time on the big stage at Nat's. Sure they won a few, but they ain't and never were a dynasty as some of the UCLA alums seem to think...Just another Power 5 program with too many chiefs and not enough braves...
