So Butchart beat all the Americans? Nice one Andrew!
Bit disappointed in Ben True. Why didn't he go with the pace?
Last lap 56.95. 12:59.29 WL. Good put can we mention that Lagat ran 51 at the end off a race 8 seconds faster. And he was being chased by Bekele there who also ran a 51 second last lap. And championship races have gone faster, such as 2003 where it was one in 12:53, with a finish faster than that. And Bekele went faster than that in the second 5K of the 10K in 2003. Mo is not that good, he is just on top of a slow era, and it is sad to see people but him in a discussion for GOAT.

This race is a joke. The field can't even hang onto 13:10 pace, ridiculous. Might as well give Farah the gold now and don't even bother running the race
You warrior noticed it is 25 degrees C....
Weird race. Was paced perfectly and it looked like the 5th or 6th place kenyan at 3k let a gap form and no one would go around him. Kind of on True, he was right on his shoulder and could have gone around to stick with the lead group. As soon as there was daylight the entire chase pack bunched up and ran for second.

Mo won by 14+ seconds with no help after 8 laps. Cut him some slack.

I had the same question. They're both 13:00-13:05 type guys, but you wouldn't know it looking at today's performance. This was a perfectly paced race right in the middle of their training peak. Neither are going to the Olympics, so why not give it a go and try to run a PR?
I don't think a race where Mo comfortably jogged it in is comparable to the races you are citing. Mo dominated this race and didn't need to kick.
Not suggesting his performance is better, just I think he has other races that compare favorably. And based on this one, he will probably have another race at the Olympics that holds up pretty well to those you mentioned.
I just checked the temps. It's 83 degrees in London right now.
True is not good in the heat. I wonder if he needs to start doing stuff to adjust.
At the Trials, Salazar said he hoped it was hot as they view that as a competitive advantage. A lof ot the US guys we forget are 13:05 guys in perfect conditions at Stanford not when it's 85 degrees.
Farah threads always have allegations of doping and I have a controversial idea.
If Farah wins the 10k an 5k at the olympics with great times, and if he would be willing to go through it, give him an exception to take PEDS, and track his progress. If there is no improvement do we can assume he was doping already, but if he goes into Bekele, Gebrselassie , Koech territory, would we be willing to accept that they were the dopers?

I agree that he's not good in the heat. You said he was doomed in the 10k at the Trials before it started as it was hot but he did win the NY DL in the heat. but that was a slow race.

No one is saying he is the GOAT you moron. If he double golds in Rio however I think we can say he is the GOAT championship runner in the 5/10.

Who the hell is Butchart?
True didn't go with the pace for the same reason the rest of the Americans didn't - they aren't fit enough. True has run 13:02 once in hi life at night in perfect california conditions. This was a 12:59 race in the middle of the day in 80+ temps.
I just transcribed Mo's post-race interview on the BBC.
“It’s amazing. I got amazing support from the crowd and I just wanted to go for it. It was my last chance to run quick before Rio and I love this track. It has so much meaning to me,’ said Farah on the BBC broadcast after the race. “Not many athletes get (to win Olympic gold in their) hometown - oh man it’s amazing. “
When asked if this was the best preparation he’s ever had for an Olympics, Farah said, “Definitely I’m in good shape. I’m in good shape. I just have to keep doing what I’m doing. Two-two and a half weeks, anything could happen so I just gotta stay patient and stay cool.â€

He's absolutely doping already. Nobody becomes a world beater at 30+ after years of being an after thought on the pro circuit and he is surrounded by widely regarded dopers.
Unless a lot changes in 3 weeks, the Kenyans certainly won't be beating Farah over the 5K in Rio.
Koech got dropped off of what, 13:05 pace?, after 9 laps ... only managed 13:15. His best this year is 13:08 and he hasn't broken 13 in 3 years now.
Ndiku has run two 5Ks this year (not counting semis, if they even had those at the Kenyan Trials ... I'm not sure) and his best was 13:12 for 10th in Eugene.
Initially they didn't even have a 3rd guy, but I read an article a few days ago stating that the 2nd placer in the 10K at the Kenyan Trials was also being put on the 5K squad. He has a 13:20s PR I believe and pretty much hasn't raced outside of Kenya.
Soi did run 13:03 or so earlier this year, but he looked like crap today. I thought before he might have been a good 3rd guy for them to send, or Longosiwa, 13:01 and 13:02 this year ... but he hasn't raced in awhile now.
Andrew Butchart. Won British champs at 5000 a short while ago.

New Scottish record holder at 3k and 5k and has run fastest leg in English national road relays more than once. Scottish XC champion.
Mo is not in a "slow" era. Some of the Ethiopians competing now have run 12:40s, but for whatever reason, they just cannot run against him.

No, Bekele and Geb were still better at championships. Even Sihine might have been better.
BBC mentioned the UK is sending a record number of Scottish athletes to the Olympics this year, a lot of them in middle distance and distance races. Maybe the Scots should break away from the UK.
