Tracktown Summer Series Prize Money Announced

    Prize money for the Track Town Summer Series meet next week in Eugene was announced today.

    1st place = $4,000

    2nd place = $3,000

    3rd place = $2,000

    4th place = $1,000

    5th place = $750

    6th place = $500

    Plus athletes get $500-$3000 for just competing based on if they were drafted or not. With there only being one meet this year the draft bonus serves as a de facto appearance fee. (It'll be interesting to see what happens next year when they want to have more than one meet)

    The prize money is flatter than a Diamond League meet which has this structure:

    Place Prize Money (USD)

    1st $10,000

    2nd $6000

    3rd $4000

    4th $3000

    5th $2500

    6th $2000

    7th $1500

    8th $1000

    If it really is a team meet, the prize money should be divided by the team members...something like 100K for 1st 75K 2nd...50...25

    I guess my point is that I don't like the fake city team thing going on, but I think it is great they are putting an extra professional track meet on the domestic calendar.

    I don't think Eugene needs another meet. I wish there was a meet I could attend without buying an expensive plane ticket, but I'll gladly watch on TV if it's on.

    It's a good model. I think it should be a salary like NFL with performance bonuses.

    But the golf model works too I guess.

    Is this just US athletes?

    Who funds the prize money?

    This is just one meet not a series correct?

    How were the teams selected? I remember seeing a draft so were their four coaches or captains that picked?

    Tracktown USA is funding everything in Year 1. They hoped to find team owners in each of the cities but that will have to wait until next year.

    It's a good idea but the deep pockets are waiting to see how it goes this year.
