Most of my male friends who would treat this situation with even a modicum of respect or at least not as a joke are married as well; not something I'd like to try to sell to their wives. My single male friends are generally still single for a good reason (I'm in my early 30s).

Your wife sounds like a good friend.Since you have a trusting marriage , as noted by her suggestion, take time to talk thru and share your thoughts, feelings and misgivings about this completely and fully. This play date idea is ill-defined. Are you supposed to make believe seduce her on this 'play-date' or just show her how nice you are in a social setting and just showing her what it feels like to be around a marriage worthy guy?

Completely pointless, awful idea, but if I were you I would take full advantage and use it to practice your game in a controlled setting. Presumably if you're married you're a bit rusty. Worst case scenario you have a not very fun night out. Best case you have an awesome time, maybe more than once. Probably not a good idea to end the evening with anything mindblowing if you want to keep your marriage afloat but if the friend is down and willing to be quiet, that's quite a nice bonus your wife is giving you. Make sure to say thank you. And I'm sure your secret is safe with everyone on the internet so send pics.

Going out to dinner alone with a friend of you and your wife is one set of behaviors . Going out as if you are single looking for a long term relationship requires a very different set of behaviors. Since the target friend knows this set-up the construct will be awkward and ineffective.
