1) If you can find it, check any archives from the Newark Star Ledger. They had a writer named "Grant Edwards" (his real name was Edward Grant) who wrote a lot about track back then.
2) Check the archives of the Asbury Park Press. Elliott Denman (1956 Olympian, nicest person in the history of the world) was a very long-time track writer for them.
3) Elliott Denman is in his 80's and if you poke around you can probably find him. If not, contact the Shore A.C. - Elliott was one of the founders and I'm sure that they know where he can be reached. Track and Field News might know also,
4) See if Penn State has the archives of Dr. John Lucas. He was a sports historian with an unbelievable (50,000+ file cards) collection of all sorts of track info. He was a very, very dear friend of mine and when I used to go to his home, his study was literally full of ordered file cards.
