How does one train during a championship racing season like they have in high school?
Training: I am a 400/800 runner and I usually build a base all the way through August, then start aerobic development with a lot of tempos/threhsolds until the end of november, then i work the peripherals of my events (3k/1 mile/400/200 pace) for about 3 months, and then finally do 6-7 weeks of intense, race pace specific workouts twice a week. Then championship season (league, section, state meets) comes and it's usually 5 consecutive weeks of having to race pretty well every friday or saturday.
When it gets to championship season, should I rest most of the day before the meet? Run specific/hard workouts early in the week to set me up for a race on Saturday? Do less aerobic work? Cut down on training peripherals?
Thanks a lot
