Hey guys,
Former collegiate sprinter here, just graduated and am looking to transition towards longer runs. Signed up for the NB Fifth Avenue Mile road race on 9/3 to keep myself motivated, and I'm trying to go for a 4:45 mile.
Background: Used to be a 400m guy in high school (PR 50.5), did a mile time trial senior fall and ran 5:10. In college I ran the 100m/200m (PR 11.2/22.8), and in a time trial that I did myself last week I ran 5:30.
I definitely have no problem churning out fast sets of 200m's, but it seems that my body has forgotten how to sustain speed for anything over 400m.
I have 8 weeks, any recommendations on how to build my running base/practice longer sprint workouts for speed and oxygen capacity?
Thanks!
