Sad to hear. I remember his race at the NBIGP in 2012 where he took down Farah and Rupp. His peaks were high but he had a lot of lows, hopefully he makes a healthy return although it looks unlikely.

Isn't he only 27 or 28? Are his injuries so bad that he can't recover? What a great athlete. Makes me sad.
Someone was selling some green OTC elite gear on ebay Ireland on these boards and I guessed it was him.
Maybe you can search up that thread and buy the gear.
Not really a poster, but I'll just clarify that an Irishman with cystic fibrosis got that stuff directly from the group and has nothing to do with me.I value greatly the investment Nike has put into my career and the support they continue to give and would not disrespect that or throw it away for a few pennies on a singlet. I also run the OTC social accounts and the only gear we have sold on there was to raise money to support an illness in the family of a friend of the club. Best to the boards, Ciarán

Ciarán,

Great career. We all wish we could have achieved what you did. You reminded me of Ronnie Delaney.
Cheers.
Ah that really sucks. Such a huge talent, and it seems that he had a lot of bad luck. I remember seeing him run the Wanamaker mile 3 years ago when he absolutely CRUSHED that 3:52.10 mile and looked nasty fit. He definitely had to the potential to break the Irish 1500m record (3:33.5), and make more world finals. Best of luck in the future, and I hope we can see a comeback!
Also something kind of staggering that I found...off topic, but the women's Irish record for 800m is only 2:00.58. That's really fast for a woman, but I'm surprised nobody has broken 2 yet.
Wish you the best of luck man, we hope to see a comeback
Incredible career man, all the best in your future ventures, as well as maybe a return to running. Remember to do your eccentric stretching
Ciaran, didn't you post as TheLeevaleHarrier?
.
Your fire shined bright and that is something that can not be taken away.
Wishing you an equally bright future
Tom
Eh you know I was always hard on Ciaran like over-obsessing about stuff, but I think this is a great turning point for him. Dude you had some great triumphs and 28 is a great age to pivot over. And you have the injury out, unlike Wheating who is going to neurotically grind himself to nothingness.
You're clearly a driven guy, so go out into the world and shape it broseph. You'll have equal fulfillment.
You went to the Olympics and that's pretty awesome by itself. Good luck, man.
I've been a major fan over the years and am sadly not surprised to hear this after following your story. Hopefully your transition will allow you to channel your passion and energy into an area where you can see as much success as you wish. Best wishes and I'll be watching your social media for updates on your endeavors.

Good luck, man. It was great to watch you compete. Best of luck in the future.

Best of luck! It was inspiring the year you knocked so much time off to get into world's or Olympics with a 3:34(?) and it sounded like you had speed to burn, from that reported 49 in a workout with Mo and Rupp. A real shame that the injuries took you out.
ok... I was not implying there would be anything wrong with selling your gear when retiring, I'm not sure why Nike or OTC would have a problem with it either, do they expect it back?
Just stop before mom and dad take away your internet privileges. You made an assumption, assumed wrong, made an as* out of yourself, and he rightfully felt the need to debunk your assumption. Mad Len made a run that we could only envy. Godspeed.
Always hoped he'd perhaps try one more change and go back to Florida and train under Braman for a final roll of the dice.
You read any articles or interviews with him from c. 2010-2011 when he made the big jump in performance and ran 3.34 (I think that's the time he ran the year he made worlds final) and he seemed to just be doing mileage and big tempo's with no real speed or interval work.
If he's banged up with Achilles problems he may have been able to do that type of work and get some consistency by avoiding track or short intervals which may be the focus if he was mainly aiming at the 1500m.
Incidentally, whilst he is clearly a huge talent at 1500m / Mile I think he had huge potential at the 5k and 10k hence wishing he's tried a final revert to what worked for him under Braman.
I will caveat the above as we don't know if he tried this approach when his Achilles was getting progressively worse under Rowland and OTC.
Hope he comes back at some point, gentle running and just banging mileage / tempo's are underrated for 1500m training.
