Yup, He gets what he deserves if he doesn't qualify, no reason to let up that much as running a half second faster isn't going to impact the next two rounds.
I'm really not clear what he was thinking, though I guess he wasn't...
his career is over
he'll have a sappy instagram post and then another 600m world record attempt. that's it
idiot
Good thing Nike included a reduction clause
I disagree that he backed off - but he did run stupid.
At the trials everyone can roll - all guys out there are capable of 1.47 flat MINIMUM.
You can't lead even 1.47 guys through 400m in 54 and then 600m in 1min22 because every f^%king single one of them will be right there ready to put the afterburners on in the last 120. To compound matters, you have given every single one of them a shoulder to key off and also (as it was today) taken the wind up the critical back stretch.
If you want to control the race with 53-54 at the bell then that next 200m you need to show them who is boss - not drop the pace even further.
I wasn't shocked at all what happened given what I saw int he first 600m - I was shocked because Solomon should know better but then again after last years fiasco should we really be shocked he ran like a moron? - 2 for 2 now in the last two trials (WC and OLY)
DB - the above applies to him as well but the kid is only 19 so he gets a pass - but a big missed opportunity though - chances in track and field are few and far between these days - especially in the mens 800m
oh - and don't buy for one second Solomons comments about "not knowing how fast they were coming" - it's not like he got nipped at the line easing up.
He was swarmed with 60m to go and if he was good enough he had plenty of time to react and pull away (saw this in many of the heats today - even the 400s).
The guy just wasn't strong enough or fast enough and ran the whole race like a moron.

So far there have been all sorts of 30-somethings making their last gasp: Richards-Ross, Wariner, Vessey,
Even some in their 40s: Acuff, Nelson
It'll happen when it happens to you.
