the front page quote leads me to believe that Blankenship, like many 1500 guys, is completely delusional regarding his ability over the last 100m. if his plan is sit and kick over the last straight, he can kiss his Olympic spot goodbye.

He can sit and kick and make the team.
If his plan is to go to the front and run 3:34 pace, he can kiss his Olympic spot goodbye because at least 5 guys will rush past him in the final 100 if he does that.
He always wastes energy with little struggle-surges in the last lap. Needs to learn to ease onto the accelerator.

Yeah seriously. Look at Centro and look at Blankenship.
Centro: "Chill chill chill. Side-step. Lock in position. Time to blast it up."
Blankenship: "GAHHH THEYRE MOVING. GRAHHHH. TIME TO GO. NO WAIT FOR THEM. GAHHHH"
I can't criticize Blankenship's racing.
He was barely edged out by Manzano who has an Olympic medal and did go on to make the WC finals last year.
Andrews made the WC final as well.
And Blankenship only had the 6th best US time last year and has never gone under 3:35 so he raced well.
I love Manzano but I think Ben makes the team this year over Leo.

I believe that you meant leg speed velocity. Or at least you should have meant this.

The good thing about Blankenship is that he has a solid contract with Converse even if he fails at his running gig. They just created a pretty solid model for him. You can see him testing it out here: http://youtu.be/BkF7Mq1ZUR0
Leo knows how to make teams. He will beat Blankenship.

Great post. Oddly, Converse is actually owned by Nike now.
