I think admits he crossed into that "gray area" that most athletes do when they realize the difference between their ability and incremental fame and money.
Sad, but true.

Says straight after that Rudisha should be a couple of seconds faster and he's done 1:40. Reckon it's a typo that should say 1:42.
I agree. It definitely looks like a typo.
I agree with him that shorter, stockier athletes should be allowed to dope in order to compete with genetically superior runners. He is a trailblazer on this front for doping leniency.
Kudos to you, Nick
If not an outright typo he is referring to when he first made it onto the world stage.
I’m a short, stocky white kid that managed to run 1:45 clean.

Who cares what this has-been says.
I could see him running 1:45 clean.
By clean he means before his date with Paris Hilton. THAT'S dirty!
Has he scratched yet?
Probably needs to maximize his visibility first but HE WILL SCRATCH.

You need to work on your reading comprehension skills if that's what you think he was saying.
Funny.
You’re known for being able to get into top shape quickly. How do you do it?
I typically carry an extra 5 to 10 pounds on me most of the year. It’s very easy for me to lose that weight, but I get sick or I get injured if I try to run too light, too soon. So I was racing in China last week at 167, which is 7 pounds higher than I’d like to race at USAs. So over the next seven weeks I’ll shed a pound a week with the intention of racing at 160 at USAs. Coach Danny Mackey and I like to call it my weight vest. I carry my training vest around with me for 11 months out of the year and then I take my weight vest off right before USAs and sure enough that helps a lot believe it or not.
Seriously,
Micro-dosers might consider themselves "clean"?
People who go right up to the line might consider himself "clean"?
Lots of sketchy behavior might not technically break the rules.

Hanson-Dodge tweeted about him running the trials.
To be honest, I couldn't imagine him scratching. This is last one for sure. He doesn't have enough steam or drive to make it to 2020. America's future in the 800 looks strong as hell. Only reason to scratch would be if he had a serious serious injury (prob not since he's been fishing plenty), or if he thought that his earnings over the summer would be much higher than otherwise (races/sponsors still think he's good and HAD to miss because of an injury).
He's gonna race. He's going to barely squeak into the final. Everyone will doubt him. He'll have the race of his life and get third to Brazier and Borian. Just like last year, some guys who were supposed to make the final will not.
Nope. He is a guarantee DNS.
Berian, Brazier, and Murphy have all emerged in the last year plus--quite the strong 800m team for the next ten years and who knows who else might join them? If Symmonds can make this team, and he has been able to make the team probably every time out since 2008, after running nothing of consequence since 2013, I think, except for last year's trials, that would be a real accomplishment. Solomon's still out there and young enough to expect to run well but he hasn't done it for awhile now.
Nick Symmonds is one of those athletes that comes along only once a generation. Not for his barn burning speed (though, he is one of the fastest Americans ever), but for the impact he left on the sport. I have friends who know nothing about running, but know who Nick Symmonds is and what he has done for track and field.
If this is, in fact, Nick's last run at the USA championships, I think we should really soak it in and appreciate what a great ambassador for USA running he has been.
Its strange to consider how heavy Symmonds is, especially when most elites are doing everything they can to stay as lean as possible. It would be an interesting experiment to see what he could do over a season if he were to drop down to like 145.

So Nick is posting in letsrun now with his downtime? Sad.
He just started his whole black tape on the arm protest. I bet he starts at least the 1st round. Not saying he will advance or even finish his heat, but now that he has started this protest he kind of has to take part

Great ambassador? Every time he speaks it seems like he is trying to turn people away from the sport.
Can't wait for him to hang them up.
